Though Spotify is one of the most well-known music streaming services with a clean interface, sometimes it starts to malfunction and make the users helpless. 

This particular problem occurs basically when you are going to open this application.

An error message suggesting “The Spotify application is not responding” constantly shows up on the screen and restricts you to open that application as well.

Method 1: End the Process in Task Manager

Trust on us, it is the simplest method that can solve the Spotify application is not responding issue. Furthermore, it will solve any other Spotify related problems as well and you never face this from that time. 

So try out these methods by following the steps below:

The very first thing you need to do is to tap on the Ctrl, Shift, and Esc key altogether for launching the Task Manager.

As an alternative method, you can use the Ctrl, Alt, Del buttons for choosing the Task Manager from the blue screen. Moreover, you can also look for it in the Start menu by typing Task Manager in the box.

After that, tap on the More details option for extending the Task Manager. Type “spotify.exe” in the box and then tap on it. You will find this under the Apps section. 

In any case, if you find that there are a number of options, then right-click on all of them.

Next, select the End task icon. You will find this section in the context menu which shows up on the screen. Now, hit the Yes button for proceeding the step. 

Finally, reboot your device and review that if the Spotify application opens without any restrictions or not.

Method 2: Remove Certain Files from AppData Folder

If any file gets damaged or corrupted, then it might restrict the Spotify application to open. On such occasions, you need to remove that damaged files from your device in order to fix the problem.

  • At first, navigate to the system tray and right-click on the Spotify icon. 
  • After that, tap on the Quit icon. 
  • Next, click on the Windows and the R letter at the same time on the keyboard.
  • Now, navigate to the Run box and type ‘%AppData%\spotify in it. 
  • Further, click on the Enter key, search for Spotify and click on it twice. 
  • Then, choose all the files and folders and tap on them.
  • Choose the Delete option for removing the files from the AppData folder. 

At the last step, restart your device and check whether the problem gets fixed or not. If you are still getting the issue, then follow the next method.

Method 3: Perform a Reinstallation of Spotify

If the first two methods are not enough to fix the issue, then reinstall the Spotify application and check if the problem gets mitigated or not.

  • The first and foremost thing you need to do is to uninstall the Spotify application from your device by using the Settings app. 
  • Now, be sure that you have logged in with an Admin Account because you will not be able to remove any programs by using any other Account privileges.

By proceeding this method, you will lose all music that is downloaded in your Spotify application for offline purposes. 

Now, tap on the Start menu and launch the Control Panel by searching for it.

As an alternative way, you can tap on the Gear icon for launching the Settings if you are working on Windows 10. After that, choose “Category”. You will find this option at the top-right corner of the screen. Here, navigate to the Programs section and choose the Uninstall icon as well.

Method 4: Refresh the Network Settings

Due to a poor or unstable internet connection, you can encounter “The Spotify application is not responding” issue. In such instances, refreshing the network settings can help you to get rid of the problem.

  • First of all, tap on the Windows and X letter altogether on your keyboard.
  • After that, select the Command Prompt(Admin) option from the list of results.
  • Then, type the following commands in the command box. Also, hit the Enter key after putting each command.

‘ipconfig /release;’

‘ipconfig /renew;’

‘netsh winsock reset;’

‘netsh int ip reset;’

‘ipconfig /flushdns;’

‘ipconfig /registerdns;’,

‘netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled;’

‘netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled;’,

‘netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled;’

‘netsh int tcp show global’

At last, you need to hit the Enter key from the keyboard to execute the commands and restart your device to check if the same problem is still appearing or not. 

Method 5: Update your Device

If the above methods are not workable for you, then updating your Operating System can fix the problem. 

  • First, you need to restart your PC and wait until it starts automatically. 
  • After that, use Windows and the I keys altogether to start the Settings.
  • Further, navigate to the “Update & security” menu and click on it. 
  • Then, look at the left side and select the Windows Update tab. 
  • Tap on the Update history from the right side of the screen.

If the last update is the main culprit that is causing the issue, then tap on the Uninstall button and remove it as well. 

Then, move to the last page and choose “Check for updates” option and tap on the available update. Keep waiting until the downloading process is going on.

Method 6: Change the Spotify Properties 

When all the methods failed to fix this Spotify application failing to respond problem, then it may be the compatibility problem. 

In such instances, you need to modify the properties and check if the problem appears or not.

First, you must right-click on the Spotify icon on the desktop. Else you can also select the .exe file in the install folder. Then, choose the Properties icon and navigate to the Compatibility tab. After that, choose the “Change settings for all users” icon by clicking on it.

Here, you need to uncheck the “Run this program”. Have a click on the “Run this program as an administrator” tab and hit on the Apply button. Now, choose the OK and also exit from the Properties tab.
