In case, if you find any special characters in the file name, then this is the culprit that returns you the error code 43 on Mac while transferring or removing a file.

Solution 3: Run the Disk Utility Tool

Step 1: Open the Disk Utility window

First of all, close all the open windows on your device and then click on the Apple logo that is present at the top left part of your screen. 

Next, under the expand Menu list, select the Restart option. Now, wait until your system turns on.

Once the Mac windows open, keep pressing the Command and the letter R key altogether until you see the Apple logo on the screen. Now, from the open window, click on “Disk Utility” and then select the Continue button.

Step 2: Run First-Aid for the Disk

After that, from the left-hand side panel, you need to select the disk in which the file (with which you are facing the problem) is located. After you have selected the file, click on the First-Aid tab that is present near the top portion of the window. 

Further, click on “Continue” to continue. It will start scanning your selected disk. If an error is detected by the scanning and it tells that your disk is about to fail, then the best option to fix the issue is to backup overall files that you can.

Next, click on Run. In case, if the Disk Utility tool reports that there is no issue found, then you can exit the tool freely.

Step 3: Solve Overlapped Extent Allocation

If you get the “overlapped extent allocation” error after clicking on the Show Details button. then the best option to solve the problem is to delete the detected file if it is not utterly important.

However, if the detected file is important, then open the file to see if the file is corrupt or not. If the file is shown corrupted, then you need to backup your file and format your disk.

Solution 3: Reset PRAM or NVRAM

  • At first, close all the open programs and then shut down your Mac PC normally.
  • Next, during the PC completes the restarting process, locate the Command, Option, and the letter P and R keys on your keyboard.
  • Now, as your PC turns on, press both the keys (Command+Option+P+R) altogether, and keep them hold until you see the Grey Startup screen. 
  • You will hear a startup sound three times during the process. It indicates that the reset PRAM or NVRAM is successfully done.

In case, if you did not hear a startup sound three times, then you need to repeat the above process once more.

Solution 4: Delete Locked Files

One of the main causes responsible for the error code 43 on Mac is the presence of the locked files on your Mac device. 

If this is the case, then trying this method will get the problem resolved. The steps to go through are as follows:

Firstly, open up the “Utilities” window on your Mac device and then, under the Utilities window, click on Applications. After that, under the Applications expanded options, select “Utilities”. Further, from the Utilities list, select “Terminal”.

In the Terminal window, enter the command as given below. Exactly, as it is shown here.

chflags -R nouchg

Next, click on the Return button to execute the command.

Further, empty the Trash. To do it, you need to double-click on the Trash icon at first, to open up the window. Next, to select the overall item under the Trash window, tab the Command key along with the letter A.

After selecting all the files, drag to Terminal to delete the locked files completely. Hopefully, this method will get you an effective result.

Solution 5: Delete All DisplayState.plist File

After trying all the above methods hopefully, you will get the issue resolved. If not, then go for this method. Sometimes, this method works in fixing the error code 43. 

The steps to perform this solution is very easy and are as given below:

First of all, you need to locate the file and then right-click on it. Next, under the Menu window, select “Show Package Contents”. Now, on the next window, you will get three options: Media, Resources, and Alternatives.

Under the Alternatives and the Resources folders, locate DisplayState.plist and remove all the files of the same name.

Note: As a safety, it is better to drag all the files which you are going to delete on the window.
