OS2008 and Applications=== N800_2008beta, missing libraries === http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=105095#post105095 Which applications work in OS2008?Many applications that worked in OS2007 will not work until they have been modified for OS2008. You can find applications for OS2008 here: Also, a list of applications that work in OS2008 is being compiled at this Wiki page: And there is a thread topic in the forums: Browser crashes after upgrading from OS2007This is a common problem if you restored a backup after upgrading from OS2007 to OS2008. In OS2007 the standard browser was Opera. In OS2008 the standard browser is MicroB. When you restore a backup there is a file that gets overwritten which tells OS2008 to use Opera, but since Opera doesn't exist in OS2008 this causes the browser to crash. The solution is to either A) reflash the OS2008 firmware and not do a restore, or B) edit the file that contains the bad information. If you have taken the time to do any installs or configuration in OS2008, or if you simply want to keep your restored settings, then you will want to use option B. Instructions on how to edit the file are in the following posts: Is Skype working in OS2008?Yes. Reports in December 2007 suggested some people had crashes during calls, though others used it without problems. The relevant bug report and forum thread have not been added to for several months, and it may be that the updated version of OS 2008 has solved whatever caused the earlier problems. Is FM Radio working in OS2008?Yes. It's in the applications list now, so refresh that if it's not showing up. It now has an alarm clock function, too! It only works with the N800, the N810 has no FM tuner. It is known to cause some issues with BT headsets; the radio switching between wired headset and external speakers seems to override the normal switching between BT headset and speakers. Is the Camera application included in OS2008?It is not in the firmware but it can be added through the Application Manager. OS2007 and Applications=== Step by step Skype installation 770/2007He === http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12740, thread #7. Some OS2007 issueblah blah blah OS2006 and ApplicationsSome OS2006 issueblah blah blah General OS and ApplicationsApplication X won't install because it is missing some files.Sometimes an application won't install because there are unresolved dependencies on other files. Make a note of the missing file names, then go to this site: Which applications use the camera in the N810 or N800?See this thread topic in the forums: Flash doesn't work / is out of dateIf you run out of memory the browser will disable the Flash Player component. You'll need to re-enable the Shockwave Flash component in the browser menu. The tablet uses Debian, right? Can't I just install any Debian program? No, most Debian programs aren't written for the ARM processor. They have to be compiled and otherwise adjusted. Where are my files? If you create folders using the built in file manager application (Utilities->File Manager), the Tablet creates hidden directories under /home/user/MyDocs/. e.g. Camera snapshots are stored as jpg's under /home/user/MyDocs/.images/camera/ (note the file manager name does not necessarily match the directory name e.g Images folder shows with a capital I in File manager, and "Video clips" is really .videos). N810 HardwareUpdating OS on N810 using MacOSX.Updating OS on N810 using MacOSX. The maemo.org downloads resulted in a file nokia_N810.php on my mac. This name seemed rather generic. I renamed this file to the name of the current update. RX-44_2008SE_1.2007.42-19_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin for future identification to avoid confusion with later updates. The Maemo.org wiki for MacOSX (written for the 770) can be trusted subject to a few minor comments. That wiki suggests i) "take off the memory card" and ii) "If you forgot to take the memory card off the Nokia, it won't be detected. ** comment:** I believe one must hold down the "home" key while pressing the power-on key." Now the N810 has an internal card which cannot be removed and no "home" key. But if you hold down the SWAP button while powering on, the N810 is detected. Following the maemo.org wiki (non GUI) instructions, the reflashing is very fast 20 sec. I took the precaution of leaving the usb cable attached until I had shut down the rebooted n810. (I got a warning on the mac about unplugging -- but observed no ill effects.) I restored the backup accepting new icons. I cleaned out all the music and videos I did not want and restored the "panel" settings (in the "control panel"). All other settings including the bluetooth keyboard were restored. For clarifying information see posts 12 and 15 in http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=108995 Notes: 1) Step 2 of post 15 should read: chmod +x flasher-2.0.macosx 2) You need the (mac) root password to complete the procedure in post 15. For instructions see: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1549.html . 3) I had to run post 15's procedure twice. The second time worked fine. (Another had it work the first time.) 770 HardwareSome 770 issueblah blah blah General HardwareBluetooth device not pairing after a reboot or reflashOccasionally a BT (bluetooth) device (i.e. keyboard) hangs, or through other various scenarios, no longer responds to your device. Any attempts to pair it again fail due to the pairing passcode prompt appearing right after you click OK - not giving time for the device to issue a proper response for the passcode given. What has happened is the system files are out of sync or 'half baked' for the device, and pairing will not work until this info is cleaned up properly. What we need to do is get enough info into the system files to be able to completely delete the 'half baked' device info. The we can re-pair the device properly...so.... The OS2008 bluetooth files can be found in: /var/lib/bluetooth/nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn (where the nn's are HEX values for your device's BT radio - known as the MAC address) Using xterm or an ssh client (putty), gain 'root' access (check other references if you don't know what 'root' is) to your device and 'cd' to the above folder and issue the following command to display t wo files: cd /var/lib/bluetooth/00:18:a3:06:77:19 (MAC address is a bogus example) cat linkkeys trusts (the trusts file lines are the short ones) Compare the resulting BT keys (the HEX and ':' values). You will find that the trusts file has an extra line that the linkkeys file does not. Edit the linkkeys file (vi), duplicate a line and change one of the duplicate lines keys to the missing one in the trusts file. vi linkkeys (the vi editor commands are: 'dd' to delete the cursor's line, 'p' and another 'p' to put it back plus another copy, type one capital 'R' and type the missing key over the original key, when done press 'Esc' key followed by 2 capital 'Z's - so 'ZZ' - the file will be written and the editor will exit. NOTE! if you mess up and want to restart, press 'Esc' and then ':q![Enter]' - the editor aborts and exits) Now on the device, go into your bluetooth devices and delete the device you can now see again (NOTE: just because you can see it again does not mean it will connect - the duped line we created does not have the right encryption info for your device). Now try to re-pair your device. The pairing prompt should now wait and all should work as normal. Alternatively (if your good with the editor, and careful), you can fix the problem by opening each of the files in the above directory and delete any line that references the device's mac address - if you know what that address is (usually the missing one between files 'trusts' and 'linkkeys'). This information is partly gleamed from user responses from a Maemo bug report: see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2640 (search for 'workaround') Also, this info may only apply to OS2008 and N800 / N810 devices.
