At Engadget, Hannes Wolf wrote in a comment to a post about Howard Chui’s review of the Nokia 770:
Nokia said: will be available for purchase online at nokia.com, planned in the 3rd quarter of 2005 in selected countries.
I just received official information, that the launch has been postponed to Q4/2005, which means with some luck we might get a few before Xmas 2005.
See my blog at http://TeddyTheBear.blogspot.com for details…
He was replying to a slightly earlier post by “NS”:
It will be available by the end of September 2005 for Developers. For the general public, it will be available in end of December 2005. I hope there are no delays or revised dates.
When we first ran across this item, there was nothing at the TeddyTheBear blog, which caused some confusion; later an item with an explanation for its tardiness appeared that stated, “About two weeks ago I got an official information from a Nokia representative, who told me, that the Nokia 770 won’t be available in Q3, but in Q4 and definitively before Xmas.” Wolf is based in Vienna; on the other hand, here in the U.S., contrary impressions were left by a Nokia contact. Anyone with information that can scotch or confirm these rumors is requested to please let us and others in this community know.
We have to agree with Mike Cane, who puts a most sensible postion forward in firm terms: “I’d rather have it done right and ‘late’ than ‘on time’ and half-baked.”
